From St Kilda To Kings Cross

A completed PhD investigating the geography of live music in Sydney and Melbourne between the 1980s and 2000s.

‘Retro Recall’ event at Melbourne Town Hall tomorrow (February 25th): researchers are interested in your stuff

Hi everyone –

Some good news is that I have handed in my final thesis. It passed with minor amendments in January, and I’ve now implemented these and submitted the final document for archival. Exciting! I’ll share the thesis, some comments, and snapshots thereof, up here when I am feeling bloggy.

Another exciting upcoming event is the ‘Retro Recall’ day at the Melbourne Town Hall tomorrow, February 25th 2017. I’ll be helping out the Monash research team in this excellent project. It runs 10am-6am.

Anyone can come along and share (not hand over, just share! with photos and a description) their Melbourne music memorabilia items. It is for archival purposes, to help people know who has what, hidden under their beds or in their garages or whatnot. Vinyl, posters, CDs (har har), tickets, zines, photos…do you have some?

I will bring some uncool old posters of mine from the mid 2000s, just to show that it’s totally not just about the olden-olden days, and can also include memorabilia from the not-quite-old-enough-to-be-old Melbourne music days.

Thanks 🙂
